When in doubt, traverse and kick-turn. An openchristy into the hill, with the aid of the upper pole andbody swing, can with little practice be made in any snowconditions. This is true of no other turn but the kick-turn, which will reverse the direction in preparation foranother traverse and open christy into the hill. Stem-christies away from the hill at thirty miles per hour areprettier to watch and more thrilling to execute than arekick-turns, and should be attempted, though perhaps atlower speed, when conditions warrant; but a fall with apack, in poor snow that may thinly conceal a sharp rock, may not be thrilling.
